New Delhi: The Khushi Centre for Rehabilitation and Research (“KCRR”) will organize the “Khushi Punarvaas 2012” on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Sirifort Auditorium –II from 4:00 P.M. onwards. The event, an initiative of the Environmental Health Club of the KCRR, is being organized to raise resources for the victims of the earthquake in September, 2011 in Sikkim and to utilize these resources to create healthy living for the disaster affected population of Sikkim with special focus on women, men and adolescents.
The event will be supported by leading sportspersons of the country, who have graciously agreed to provide historical pieces of their sporting equipment for display as memorabilia by KCRR. Contributions of memorabilia have been made by sportspersons representing a broad spectrum of sports, include leading lights such as Virender Sehwag, Bhaichung Bhutia, Ashish Nehra, Sunil Chhetri, Yuvraj Singh, MC Mary Kom, Virat Kohli, Vijender Singh, Rahul Bose, Dhanraj Pillay, Abhinav Bindra, Sushil Kumar, Ranjan Sodhi, Shivendra Singh and Col. RVS Rathore among several others.
Speaking about the event, Dr. B.D. Banerjee, President of the KCRR, said “All of us are aware of the disaster that has adversely affected tens of thousands in Sikkim and our heart goes out to the affected in their hour of distress. The Khushi Punarvaas is one of the steps being undertaken by the KCRR to contribute towards alleviating the suffering of Sikkim and we believe that this event offers people the opportunity to be part of the rehabilitation effort in Sikkim while at the same time interacting with India’s leading celebrities. We do hope that the people of Delhi will come out and participate in this effort.”
The chief guest at the event will be Prof. Kiran Walia, Minister for Social Welfare of the Government of Delhi. The event will be convened by Bhaichung Bhutia and will also see the attendance of Ms. Aruna Roy, Sunil Chetri and members of the Bayern Munich team as well as almost all of the celebrities that are contributing the sporting memorabilia. All funds generated through donations made at the “Khushi Punarvaas 2012” will be utilized to create livelihood and employment opportunities for further development and growth of the affected in Sikkim and to develop static and dynamic units for the successful execution of this initiative.
Bhaichung Bhutia, former India football captain said, “The people of Sikkim have suffered terribly and face an acute shortage of financial resources and manpower to undertake the rehabilitation work necessary. I hope that I and the other sportspersons can, through the “Khushi Punarvaas 2012”, utilize our appeal to raise awareness of and resources for Sikkim and ask all to come forward and support us.”

Ian Cardozo, Chairman Rehabilitation Council of India; Prof. Mehrotra - SYS Alumni AIIMS; Dr. P K Sharma, MO - NDMC; Honorable members of Parliament, former director of A.I.I.M.S., heads of various traders associations, representatives of public sector undertakings, corporate, universities, government bodies and other private institutions.
