For Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Mamata on 4-day hill tour

Darjeeling, Feb 29 : Sticking to her promise, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today landed here to take stock of various developmental projects and administrative issues in the hills, including the GTA.

The Chief Minister, who touched down at around 1445 hours at Bagdogra airport on her way to the hills on a four-day tour, is expected to hold meetings with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha over the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).

During her February 10 visit to the Hills to attend the North Bengal festival, she held a meeting with the GJM and blamed the Centre for delay in the implementation of the GTA.

It has been almost six months since the tripartite meeting between the Centre, the state and the GJM over the GTA. The GJM members said after the February 10 parley that they would stick to their earlier stand on the issue besides threatening to initiate the Gorkhaland movement if the implementation did not take place by March end.

Ms Banerjee is scheduled to visit the Gymkhana Club later today to participate in a number of inaugural functions and stone laying ceremonies.

The Chief Minister would inaugurate the Balason water project meant for resolving the water crisis in the hills and also attend the opening ceremony of a museum and an IT hub.

The ropeway service between Singla and Takbhar, which was earlier suspended following an accident, would also be formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

After spending the night at Darjeeling, she would go to Kalimpong and may also visit Lava and Lolegaon.

During her earlier visit, Ms Banerjee had promised to visit again on February 28. (UNI)
