Sikkim News: Tourism awards for Sikkim

New Delhi, Feb. 29.TT: It was a clean sweep for Sikkim, as the state bagged three awards at the National Tourism Awards here today. Chief minister Pawan Chamling himself was present to receive the award from President Pratibha Singh Patil.
Sikkim was rated the best state in the category of Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast.
This is the second time in a row, Sikkim has got this award. The state also bagged the first award for Best State-Clean India Campaign, constituted to stress on the recently launched campaign. The state’s plastic free image helped in getting this award.
Solophok in Sikkim also got award for most innovative tourism project. The award was shared by steam engines at Rewari, 5km from Namchi, which has a 108-foott high statue of Lord Shiva constructed in concrete.
Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival was also conferred a special award for having the best promotional website.
President Pratibha Patil gave away the National Tourism Awards to 78 awardees in over 50 categories. Madhya Pradesh got the award for Best State. Mandu in Madhya Pradesh also bagged the award for “Best civic management of a tourist destination”. Madhya Pradesh bagged the third award for its promotional film on MP tourism. New Delhi railway station got the award for tourist friendly station. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has got the award for the best airport in India.
