Siliguri, May 18 : Tension prevailed in Nagrakata area of Dooars since last night following the arrest of 70 people, including block Congress leader Amarnath Jha, for ransacking a police station.
Trouble erupted after a dog bit a person which led to clashes between supporters of Congress and Adivasi Vikas Parishad(John Barla group) at the Changmari Tea Estate.
Police had to rush in additional force as the situation got out of control.
Following a complaint by the AVP, Mr Jha and 69 others were arrested. At this Mr Jha's supporters ransacked the police station and assaulted two constables.
Mr Jha and the others would be produced before the Jalpaiguri Chief Judicial Magistrate's court later today. (UNI)
