The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) is yet to make a formal announcement on whether it will contest the first elections to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administra-tion (GTA), which are likely to be held on July 29, though the party has “almost decided” to participate in the polls. At the party’s central committee meeting in Darjeeling on Sunday, most of the members gave their opinion to contest the polls. GJM president Bimal Gurung will hold separate meetings with Union home minister P. Chidambaram, Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and chief minister Mamata Banerjee before taking a final call on this issue.
“I along with four leaders of our party will meet Mr Chidambaram in New Delhi on Tuesday. We will also hold a meeting with Mr Mukherjee. Meanw-hile, we are trying to fix an appointment with the chief minister so that we can meet her after returning to Kolkata from New Delhi,” Mr Gurung said after the meeting. Accor-ding to GJM sources, the party has almost decided to contest the GTA elections. “Most of the central committee members are in favour of participating in the polls.”
