Darjeeling Hills: Monsoon menace causes inconvenience

Kalimpong| Mukesh Sharma: Though it is opined that the rainfall this year is lesser as compared to last years’ monsoon still much landslides are triggered every alternate day in the Darjeeling hills. Only today, due to the overnight downpour landslide occurred at 2 places along the National Highway (NH) 31A further causing road blockade for almost around 3 hours.The landslide occurred at the spots where the road widening work by the GREF is at full swing i.e. at Kali Jhora and Riyang. The commuters going towards Siliguri were compelled to pay double fares by travelling through lava via Gorubathan  due to the blockade. Even the daily newspapers which used to be delivered early morning in the town got delivered by 12 noon
