Deusi to be celebrated by Basibyalo Kalimpong during Diwali

The Basibyalo family has decided to observe ‘Deusi’ for a week during the Diwali festival this year. The decision has been taken with an aim to keep the age traditions of the Gorkha community alive, informed Basibyalo’s Chief Convenor, Hira Chettri. Though they will be conducting Deusi the traditional way, other attractions along with it are poetic plays, humour, poem recitation, solo performance, etc. The semi finalist of India’s Got Talent from Sikkim, Deepraj Rai will also be a part of the Basibyalo’s Deusi team. 40-50 member team will be conducting Deusi at Kalimpong during Lakshmi Puja i.e. on Nov 13, followed by Siliguri on Nov 14, Teesta on Nov 15, Pedong on Nov 16 and finally in Gangtok on Nov 17. They will also be visiting Melli and other places during this time. The funds gathered through Deusi will be utilized for societal works, informed Chettri.Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri, who is also a senior member of the Basibyalo will also be partaking. The MLA has assured of all help to the Basibyalo during the event. Saying that it is important to present the culture and traditions in a proper way he appealed one and all to support the same.
