Kalimpong, Dec. 2.TT: The West Bengal
Council of Higher Secondary Education has in principle agreed to change
the dates of the Class XII practical examinations for the current
academic year from January following a request from a teachers’ wing of
the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.
The Janmukti
Secondary Teachers’ Organisation had told the council that the extreme
cold in the hills in January would make it very difficult for the
students to appear for the tests and requested that the exams be
conducted either before December 20 or after the third week of
February.
In a communiqué to
the teachers’ organisation last week, Achintya Kumar Pal, the council
secretary, said its request for the re-scheduling of the practical tests
had been forwarded to the deputy secretary (examinations) with an
instruction by the council president to make the necessary adjustments.
“The (changed) schedule will be soon communicated to you,” Pal said in his letter.
The council had earlier announced that the practical tests would be conducted in January.
In the previous
years, the council had conducted the practical tests after theory
papers, which were generally held in the middle of March
