UDALGURI, Feb 13 – Udalguri units of All Rabha Students’ Union, All Rabha Women Association and All Rabha Youths Association today took out a silent procession here wearing black badges against the killings and violence in the Rabha Hasong areas during the last phase of panchayat elections. Later, the processionists submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the DC of Udalguri.
Rabha bodies also took out a similar silent procession in Bhergaon town of Udalguri district. Meanwhile, the Rabha organizations have called a 12-hour BTAD bandh tomorrow protesting the alleged inhuman killings.
The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union and Udalguri unit of Assam Gorkha Sammelan also condemned the violence in the Rabha Hasong area and held the State Government responsible for it.
An AAGSU release said government should have realized the common sentiment of the people living in RHAC area before holding panchayat polls. Dipak Nirola, general secretary of Udalguri unit of AGS also expressed grave concern over the volatile situation in the Rabha Hasong area and demanded restoration of normalcy there.
Our Diphu Correspondent adds: The Co-ordination Committee, Indigenous Tribal National Organizations (ITNO) has strongly condemned the killing of common people in the RHAC area. Talking to this correspondent over phone, Bisweswar Basumatary, chairman, Co-ordination Committee ITNO alleged that the Tarun Gogoi government had let loose unwarranted violence in RHAC by imposing panchayat polls on the people, defying popular sentiments of the masses.
