Under the Nine is Mine campaign, the Bal Suraksha Abhiyan Trust (BSA) Kalimpong organized a child awareness programme at Delhi on January 30 and 31, 2013. It was observed during the programme that though Right to Education (RTE) has been implemented in the country still child labour seems to be ever increasing.The BSA under the leadership of Sister Subeshna Pradhan and Sister Elisha Gurung met with Union Minister Oscar Fernandes. They highlighted that despite of RTE the child labour is still prevalent in the country.
Further, on January 31, the BSA along with the children representatives from 13 states also met with the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit. Each child from the 13 states interacted with the CM. Lakshmi Tamang who represented Kalimpong spoke with Dikshit. All the children raised the issues being faced by the children such as security, poverty, eve teasing, education, health, etc. The Delhi CM after meeting the children also prepared a lunch for them by herself.
