Gorkhaland Demand
New Delhi:  Gorkha Janamukti Morcha – GJM demanded that if central government is ready to give Telangana they should announce Gorkhaland also.  GJM chief secretary Roshan Giri and other representatives of GJM party met Central Home Secretary R K Singh.  They submitted they demands to the secretary.  Later they informed to the media that Singh assured that the demands will be informed to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Roshan Giri demanded that if central government is ready to give Telangana state, they should agree to give Gorkhaland also.  He said they will meet the union home minster in one or two days and then return to Darjeeling where they will discuss the latest developments.  He informed that they will organize a dharna at Jantar Mantar on 10th March, 2013 regarding separate statehood for Gorkhaland.

GJM is the party which is fighting for the cause of separate statehood for Telangana since many years.  West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced a special package to Gorkhaland and the demand for separate statehood was since then not raised. Union government of India set up Gorkha regional development council and has given administrative and financial authority.

Congress party leader PC Chako recently announced that they are not against Telangana state and since then the GJM is again demanding separate state for Gorkhaland.  Recently West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said in Gorkhaland that development is possible when the state is united but not divided.  She said this in the presence of GJM president.

Meanwhile Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung is said that people of Gorkhaland should be ready for second agitation to achieve statehood for Gorkhaland.  He said the course of action will be announced by the party on 10th March.  He said this after Mamata Banerjee mentioned Darjeeling as part of West Bengal in her speech at Chowrastha.

Gurung said that the government will surely try to suppress the agitation with force but the party leaders are not afraid as they are only concerned about their motherland but not for her lives.  He further added that Darjeeling hills are being disturbed by West Bengal government and chief minister is threading that development works may be affected.  He said the chief minister had met the Lepcha community leaders and is trying to apply divide and rule policy.
