West bengal State Electricity transmission company limited (WBSETCL) has given a green signal to replace a 132 kv sub station in Kalimpong by replacing the outdated 66 kv station with 132 Kv Sub Station here.According to sources the company has sanctioned a sum of Rs 25 crore for the said project and have also visited the site in Kalimpong where the station is to be established. Ashok Singh Zonal Manager talking to Himalayan mirror confirmed the reports and said that the news is good for the people of kalimpong .Meanwhile Somnath Roy Division Manager of Kalimpong has said that the West Bengal State Electric Distribution Company Limited has seen a site at seed farm about 4 kms form the market ,the company big officials has also visited the site last month and have given a green signal to acquire about 5 acre of land .The process is on and soon we hope to start the project which will benefit Kalimpong people for about 40-50 yr said Roy. Kalimpong presently has a substation of 66 kv in hill view where the main line mainly comes from Malli Sikkim .Leaving Gorubathan Block Kalimpong Municipality,Block One,Block 2,Teesta ,Mungpoo,Selpu ,Sitong area comes under kalimpong jurisdiction .Looking at the overall area of kalimpong the 66kv station is not enough to transmit the electricity need of the place . There is no space at hill view to expand as the place is surrounded by many shops and residential area from all side and the 66 kv sub station is nowadays on the verge of extinction as the machinery used is not easily available too.
