The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) and Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) leaderships today slammed leaders of plains outfits Amra Bangali and Bangla O Bangla Bhasha Bachao Committee for inciting the Gorkhas and accused them of evoking communalism.
GNLF Terai unit chief convener Tshering Dahal said, “The Amra Bangali and BOBBBC leaders engage in anti-national activities in the plains and the government should ban these outfits immediately. Mukund Roy and other leaders of the two organisations should be arrested in order to retain the spirit of peace and brotherhood between the two communities.”
Dahal asserted the Indian Gorkhas were residents of India even before the country was formed in its present physical contours. She said Ari Bahadur Gurung, a Gorkha resident of Kalimpong, was a member of the drafting committee of the nation’s Constitution.
The GNLF leader appealed to the Amra Bangali and BOBBBC leaders to maintain peace among the Bengali and Gorkha communities failing which the Gorkhas would be forced to launch an aggressive movement in Siliguri.
In the meantime, GJM assistant general secretary Binay Tamang said, “Our legitimate fight for a separate state is with the central government and we do not have any issue with the Amra Bangali or BOBBBC. These communal forces in North Bengal should be immediately banned by the state government to prevent conflicts in the region.”
Tamang warned leaders of the two outfits to refrain from making objectionable statements about the identity of the Gorkhas or the GJM would be forced to file a defamation case against them.
Both the GJM and GNLF also condemned the statements made today by Mukund Mazumdar and Khushi Ranjan Mandal. They had branded the Gorkha community in the country as ‘foreigners’, asking them to leave India, while urging the government to ban the demand for a Gorkhaland state.(EOI)
