Gurung to quit GTA soon

Bimal Gurung at Singamari
Darjeeling, 29 July: The GJMM president, Mr Bimal Gurung, today said he would quit as the GTA chief executive in a couple of days. “I will take the final call after the party central committee meets after the period of the 72-hour bandh is over,” he said.  "He is expected to send his papers to the Governor Mr MK Narayanan," said a party source.
He asserted that the GTA is a total failure.
“It is a matter of two-three days. We have been betrayed. We had to knock at the High Court’s door to get the principal secretary appointed as per the norm set out in GTA Act. The transfer of departments is also tardy contrary to expectations. The process is still incomplete. The state government is responsible for the mess,” he said.
He said the other GTA sabha members would not resign right now.  “GTA was signed without dropping the demand for Gorkhaland. It is on record. It might be scrapped if it stands counter to our statehood demand,” he said and insisted that their struggle for Gorkhaland would intensify once Telangana is formed.
He said they are not sincere about the statehood demand.     SNS
