Even as tension mounts over the Gorkhaland issue, the three major parties of West Bengal have begun a verbal duel with one another instead of trying to resolve the situation.
North Bengal Development minister Gautam Deb today minced no words in slamming three Hill Congress members who allegedly participated in the-all party meeting organised by the GJM in Darjeeling. He claimed, “The three Congress members attended the meeting following the directive of a central government minister so as to help the Morcha with their demand.”
Party sources have said Deb was implying at Congress leader Deepa Dasmunshi, one of the ministers from West Bengal at the centre.
The minister further said, “Bimal Gurung has no authority to call an all-party meeting and invite the Trinamool to participate in it.”
On the other hand, the Left Front leadership condemned the state government for its role in the bolstering the Gorkhaland movement. “The measures taken by the state government to meet the Gorkhaland crisis will only intensify the problem instead of solving it,” said Left Front chairman Biman Basu.
He further said, “The GTA was a blunder. Our party had warned the state government but it refused to pay attention, which has now opened the Pandora’s Box.”
Further, Basu urged the state government not to use force as a means to resolve the situation but to negotiate with the GJM. He also expressed concern over the growing tension between the GJM and the state government, saying this could prove to be calamitous for the people of the Hills.(EOI)
