Gorkhaland agitation needs someone who can act as bridge

Gorkhaland Movement
Gangtok, 25 August: The Sikkim Gorkha Prajatantrik Party said “the Gorkhaland agitation is in need of a guardian having political power and who can act as a bridge between the Centre and the Hills”. The SGP was addressing a press conference on Saturday at the press club of Sikkim on the ongoing Gorkhaland issue.
“Sikkim being historically attached with Darjeeling and having majority of the population as Gorkhas, its leader can come into the picture declaring open support to the Gorkhaland movement”, asserted the president of SGP, Mr K B Rai.
“Lakhs of people in Sikkim and in the neighbourhood are in favour of the separate state of Gorkhakand and the government voted to power by lakhs of people must not hesitate to support it,” he added.
Commenting on the resolution passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on the Gorkhaland demand, Mr Rai said: “The public are unaware of the present scenario of the passed resolution which the government must place before the Lok Sabha.”
Remembering the recognition of Nepali language while Mrs Dil Kumari Bhandari was Member of Parliament, Mr Rai said the present Sikkim government can follow her footsteps by bringing MPs of other states in favour of the Gorkhaland issue and by raising it in the Lok Sabha.
“Experienced political leaders should come ahead and seek support from Sikkim to support the Gorkaland issue in the open,” he said.(SNS)
