Darjeeling district CPM in damage control mission

Siliguri, 17 November
In a significant damage control mission after Ms Jyoti Tirkey, former sahakari sabhadhipati of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, joined hands with the Trinamul Congress and became sabhadhipati defying party whip, the Darjeeling CPI-M has started taking on the Trinamul Congress criticising the present potato and salt price hike, present trend of black marketing and financial catastrophe.
Notably, Ms Tirkey, with the support of the Trinamul, is functioning as sabhadhipati and another member Mr Ainul Haque, who was elected on Congress ticket, joined the Trinamul Congress, and was elected as sahakari sabhadhipati of the SMP on last Friday.
Presently, the SMP, which is under the control of the CPI-M, is being run by the Trinamul Congress, though the latter had not a single elected member since
inception.
The Darjeeling district leadership held a public meeting at Khaprail Bazaar yesterday covering the area of Patharghata, from where Ms Tirkey was elected on the CPI-M ticket.
The CPI-M’s Matigara zonal committee organised the public meeting where
former minister Mr Asok Bhattacharya, party’s acting district secretary Mr Jibesh Sarkar, peasants’ leader Mr Anil Saha, tea workers’ leader Mr Ajit Sarkar, and former member of Rajya Sabha from
Darjeeling Mr Saman Pathak were present to address the rally.
However, from Patharghata gram panchayat pradhan to other senior leaders in the block level addressed the rally on the present political state of affairs in Siliguri sub division.
Local leaders said Trinamul Congress has been buying elected members of all political parties to capture democratically elected self government bodies in panchayat system.
Addressing the rally, the former state urban development minister Mr Asok Bhattacharya, said: “The character of the chief minister has been exposed. The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, close associates with the Trinamul Congress, has come to know about Miss Banerjee’s character now and how she can breach political deal after reaching her own goal.”
Mr Bhattacharya said: “This present sabhadhipati is illegal. We do not honour the present sabhadhipati because the matter is sub judice at Calcutta High Court.”
The Darjeeling district CPI-M acting secretary, Mr Jibesh Sarkar, said: “The Trinamul Congress has appointed a ration dealer to buy elected members so that Mamata Banerjee’s party can capture boards, which are under the control of other political parties."
“Mamata Banerjee’s party took such a decision because her party candidates would not be able to win in the panchayat level here. So, her party leaders invented a new method to buy elected candidates,” Mr Sarkar said.
Other leaders recalled the party’s contribution since 60s in Matigara and Naxalbari areas before the Left came to power.(SNS)
