Siliguri, 15 November: On a day when north Bengal reeled under an
artificial crisis of salt, a 1-1 home draw with Philippines in the first
of the twin FIFA international friendlies at the Kanchenjungha Stadium
in Siliguri today added salt to India’s wounds, two months after the
country failed to defend its SAFF Cup title and dropped a whopping 10
places to the 155th spot in the latest FIFA rankings. India dominated
the first 30 minutes, then fell apart before a 15,000-strong crowd at
the Kanchenjungha Stadium. sns
