Hotels in Darjeeling to offer special packages this winter

Hoteliers in Darjeeling were among the hardest hit by the July-August statehood movement and they have joined hands for a plan to cover up the losses. Hotels here will be offering special packages to both domestic and foreign tourists visiting Darjeeling this winter.
Darjeeling Hotels Association president Sangey Bhutia said, “Leaving behind all that happened during the strike, we have decided to provide reasonable economy packages to tourists. All tourism stakeholders should come forward and provide such special packages so that more tourists are attracted to town. This will help offset the losses we suffered during the strikes in July and August.”
He noted there are many domestic and foreign tourists in Darjeeling at the moment and hoped more would turn up after the special package is announced. Confident of their business receiving a boost from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Bhutia also suggested the state government should support the council to promote tourism in the hills.
It may be recalled that when chief minister Mamata Banerjee had last visited Darjeeling, she had announced the West Bengal Tourism Festival will be held in Darjeeling to promote tourism. She had even appealed to outsiders to visit the hills and enjoy the Darjeeling winter while addressing a public meeting in Shivmandir, Siliguri. (HS)
