The Three Star Club Nepal has lifted the 34th All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2013 for the second time by defeating Manang Marshyangdi Club, also from Nepal, by three goals to one in the final played today here at the Paljor Stadium. Governor Shriniwas Patil, his wife Rajani Devi Patil and chief minister Pawan Chamling were present to grace the event.
The first goal for Three Star was scored by Santosh Sahakhula in the 26th minute while Prakash Burathoki scored the second just after three minutes. The lone goal for MMC came from Sulabh Maskey in the 87th minute. With the win, Three Star Nepal has equaled the All Nepal Football Association-ANFA XI’s record of lifting the coveted Gold Cup twice. Jagjit Shrestha of Three Star was announced man of the match while Saitia Sen Singh of Royal Wahingdoh from Shillong was announced the most promising player of the tournament. The Tata Football Academy was awarded the Most Disciplined Team Trophy.
The trophies were given away by the governor and the chief minister. The Sikkim Football Association also gave away cash awards amounting to Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 to the SFA Senior Division S League Champion United Sikkim FC and runners-up Sikkim Police.(EOIC)
