Superintendent of Police (East) Manoj
Tiwari said, “It appears to be a preplanned act as there are no
belongings, documents of either the victim or the assailant(s) at the
crime scene. Further, the hotel has no records of the deceased or the
culprits in its register. We strongly believe the murder was committed
with assistance of some of the hotel’s employees.”
Tiwari further said, “No hotel employee had provided room service for the last two days. They say they broke open the room this morning. The whole incident narrated by the hotel employees is suspicious. Added to this, the manager is missing.”
The SP said the police will first try to identify the person through missing reports that have come in over the past two days. The victim’s facial features will also be redrawn using computer graphics and circulated widely through pamphlets and the media,” added Tiwari.
The police recovered a knife from the crime scene, but they suspect it was left behind to mislead them as it does not appear to be the murder weapon. Besides, there was a bottle of alcohol and two glasses at the crime scene.
Probir Mondal, an employee at the hotel who looks after the guests, said, “The deceased had checked in on December 7 around 11pm along with another man. Since it was quite late in the night, they did not provide any document or make entries in the register and promised to do so in the morning. But the two did not come out of the room throughout the next day. We thought they were inside and since there were no calls from them even today, I opened the room with a duplicate key only to find one of them lying on the bed covered in a bed sheet with blood all over. I contacted my employer who asked me to report the matter immediately to the police.”(EOI)
