Siliguri/Darjeeling, 24 February: The first day of the Madhyamik examinations passed off peacefully in
north Bengal, officials of the secondary school board said today
According to the regional officer, north Bengal, West Bengal board of secondary education, Pradip Biswas, no untoward incident was reported from six districts in the region.
He also said 27, 925 candidates appeared in the exams in Darjeeling district. Of them, 17,227 appeared in the Siliguri sub-division area, while the rest wrote their papers in the Darjeeling Hills.
“There were no reports of students resorting to unfair means in the six districts, where the exams were held amid tight security,” he said.
A total of 10 under-trails appeared in the examination at the Jalpaiguri central correction home.
A girl identified as Priya Sharma, who was injured in a road accident a few days ago, today wrote her papers from the Naxalbari health centre. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to check the use of unfair means and to maintain law and order.
Police intercepted an imposter, who was wearing the uniform of the civic police and who allegedly tried to enter the examination venue to help his sister in Islampur area. It may be noted that the Border Security Force has been deployed to guard the exam centres there.
Meanwhile, our correspondent in Darjeeling reported that the exams were held peacefully in all the centres in the Darjeeling sub-division.According to reports, 10,714 students have registered themselves for the Madhyamik exams this year.(SNS)
