Kurseong, 26 February: Senior leader of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha
(GJMM) Anit Thapa yesterday said it does not really matter if people
join the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) or the Trinamul
congress (TMC), but what matters most, according to him, is that “these
people” who are into politics must first think of general public and
all-round development of Darjeeling hills.
Mr Thapa was grilled by reporters and asked what he had to say over leaders in the Hills switching over loyalties these days, including senior GNLF leader and former three-time Kurseong MLA, Shanta Chettri. Chettri recently joined the TMC.
Mr Thapa said anyone can stay with one party or join another in politics.
Notably, in the past few months, several people have joined the TMC, mainly from the GNLF or the GJMM parties. Such a trend of switching loyalties has become more interesting at this juncture, especially after it was learnt that Mrs Chettri has ditched GNLF and entered TMC. SNS
