Siliguri, Feb. 20: A central core
committee member of the women’s wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today
said she would switch to Trinamul soon as the hill party had “deviated
from its basic principles and ideologies”.
Jyoti Subba is the
second member of the Gorkha Janmukti Nari Morcha’s central core
committee to announce her intention to join Trinamul.
A few months back, Namita Gautam had quit the Nari Morcha and joined Trinamul.
Subba, a resident
of Chota Kakjhora in Darjeeling, said in Siliguri this afternoon: “I am
one of the founder members of Nari Morcha and had been with the women’s
front of the hill party for the past seven years. However, over the past
few months, the Morcha leadership has unfortunately deviated from basic
principles and ideologies.”
“The Morcha has
resorted to dictatorship and foul politics to remain in power. Our hopes
have been shattered and so I have decided to leave the Nari Morcha.
Soon, I will join Trinamul which has been consistently working for the
development of the hills ever since the party came to power in the
state,” she added.
Subba also said
the Morcha’s key demand for a separate state had taken a backseat, much
to the disappointment of lakhs of people.
