Siliguri, 20 March: The anti-Gorkhaland pressure group, Bangla O Bangla Bhasa Bachao
Committee (BOBBBC) today demanded that BJP Lok Sabha candidate for the
Darjeeling constituency SS Ahluwalia be disqualified for his remarks in
support of a separate state in the Hills. According to the committee, Mr
Ahluwalia’s remarks violated the model code of conduct in place for the
upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The committee today served a deputation to the Chief Election Commissioner and the State Election Commissioner through the Siliguri Sub-divisional Officer's office.
"We are terribly shocked to hear what Mr Ahluwalia openly said yesterday. He said that he and his party support formation of small states and if elected, he and his party would consider the creation of Gorkhaland,” the committee president, Dr Mukunda Majumdar, said.
“Making commitment to voters after the declaration of the elections is nothing but a sheer violation of the model code of conduct, " Dr Majumdar said."We have demanded that the Election Commission take strong action against him and disqualify his candidature," he added. The committee had earlier launched a movement over the abrogation of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). It has even called several bandhs over the issue.(SNS)
