Bagdogra, 12 March: Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) chief Bimal Gurung today said dialogue
with Trinamul Congress will continue when it comes to running the Gorkha
Territorial Administration (GTA), but that there will be no talks with
the state’s ruling party on issues related to the Lok Sabha elections.
Upon his return from a visit to New Delhi, Mr Gurung told reporters at the Bagdogra airport that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will defeat the Trinamul Congress in the Lok Sabha polls with GJMM support.
Mr Gurung claimed that Trinamul candidate Baichung Bhutia will not be able to bag even 15,000 votes in the Darjeeling constituency.
“Many Gorkha people live in Bengal and we will appeal to them to elect the BJP candidates in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar too,” he said.
“We will hand down the Trinamul candidate a defeat just as we did in the last general elections when we defeated the CPI-M,” he added.
“In 2009, we had forged an electoral alliance with the BJP, and this time, efforts will be made that Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister. We are hopeful that the BJP MP would sincerely work for the development of the region,” he said.
Mr Gurung further said Jaswant Singh, the sitting MP from Darjeeling, was the only parliamentarian who raised the Gorkhaland issue in the House.
According to Mr Gurung, the BJP will announce its candidates for the region tomorrow.(SNS)
