After a gap of around seven years, the GNLF has finally come out in the open and inaugurated its party office in Kurseong.
The GNLF leadership led by former vice chairman of Kurseong municipality, Sanjay Chettri, inaugurated the GNLF party office at the BD Road in town.
Talking to reporters, Chettri said the party was able to open its party office in Kurseong town after a gap of around seven years. He said that the one-room office is a rented one on a year’s agreement. When asked, Chettri informed the office was not opened in view of the Lok Sabha election and for campaigning purposes. The office will act as a full-fledged party office in Kurseong town. He claimed this will encourage and boost party workers in the entire hills.
Chettri further added that in the past too, several plans had been made by the party leadership to open a party office in Kurseong town, but owing to the dictatorial and undemocratic activities of the GJM on the pretext of the Gorkhaland agitation, they (GNLF activists) were withheld from working freely and to conduct political activities.
The GNLF leader further said the political situation has changed in the hills as the real face of the GJM has been exposed before the people in that the Morcha is only after personal benefits in the name of Gorkhaland rather than the people’s paramount aspiration.
As in other places of the hills, the GNLF today also observed its party foundation day at various places in and around Kurseong region. The party was formed on April 5, 1980 by its chief Mr. Subash Ghisingh. (EOIC)
