An eminent writer of Kalimpong unveils his fifth book titled, ‘Education in the Darjeeling hills during the period of Gorkhaland Agitation’ in Town hall today. (Second volume) Educationists DR. Dick B. Dewan has also published the ‘Key to English-An Anglo-Nepali comprehensive Text book’ for schools up to class seven and A Golden Key to English- A course book for various classes. He is popular for his research about education in the suburbs of Darjeeling.
Educationist Dr Dick Dewan writes about the situation faced by the students and teachers during the agitation of statehood even during July-August 2013. Blaming the supporters of the movement he boldly penned that the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha forced many students studying in the hills of Darjeeling to join the movement. However Dewan still thinks that his book is incomplete without a sequel which he might prepare soon.
He said, ‘the book is written as an analysis of people’s thought.’ Speaking about the aftermath of agitation and comparing it with the odd incidents of the agitation, he expects every reader who faced the acute educational barricade to relate it to them. He also questions the confused citizens asking how the agitation’s flow affected the part of their education. While he simultaneously answered that the identification of education’s hurdle is written in the book.
Commenting on ‘Education in the Darjeeling Hills’ a book written by Dewan, a noted intellectual and dramatist, C.K Shrestha said, ‘this is not only a book written by Dewan, but it is the mirror of education that is portrayed in words which the society has to look upon.’ He also clarified the misconception of people by saying that writers don’t write books to make money, they write because they are the worrier of the society.
