Chief of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, Bimal Gurung, today complained about the District Magistrate’s “interference” in different matters under the GTA.
In the press conference at the GJMM party office in Patleybaas here, Mr Gurung condemned the raids that were conducted in various MR shops, stationary shops and other establishments recently.
“The GTA was not consulted before such raids were conducted, while the Department of Food And Supplies has been transferred to the GTA under the GTA accord,” Mr Gurung said.
“These interferences are ways to spoil the relationship between the GTA and the state government,” he added.
He further said that his party has spoken to the Home Secretary, Basudeb Banerjee, about the matter. He said he also had a talk with chief minister Mamata Banerjee about the Food and Supplies and the PWD departments.
Meanwhile, 139 workers from the Trinamul Congress aligned Darjeeling Himalayan Karmachari Sangathan (DHKS) joined the Janamukti Asthayi Karmachari Sangathan today. Binanjay Gurung, the DHKS general secretary, was among the members who switched sides and took party flags from the GJMM chief.
”It is only the Morcha which can cater to the needs of the workers. We have been working for the welfare of the workers,” said Mr Gurung.
Also today, 20 households who were supporters of the Gorkha National Liberation Font (GNLF) and the Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists (CPRM) in the lower Tamsang area joined the GJMM.
Asked about the GTA review committee meeting, Mr Gurung said it is supposed to take place on 16 December tentatively. There may also be a meeting with the state government on 19 December in Kolkata, he said. (EOIC)
