GJM Chief Mr. Bimal Gurung yesterday congratulated the newly nominated Rajya Sabha Members Dr. Subramanian Swamy and Ms MC Mary Kom.
In his statement, Mr. Gurung said, "I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Subramanian Swamy one of the most vocal and ardent supporters of Gorkhaland statehood and Sporting legend from our North East region Ms. MC Mary Kom on their nomination to Rajya Sabha on behalf of the Gorkhas in India.
Ms. Mary Kom has inspired millions of our youngsters – both men and women, especially those from the North East, and through her success has led all of us to believe in our dreams and to pursue those dreams despite all odds. The entire Gorkha community in India identifies with her struggles, and is today celebrating her ascension to the Rajya Sabha as the rare recognition of the hard work of one of our daughters from the North East has put in, to uphold the name and dignity of our great nation.
Dr. Subramanian Swamy has been one of the most inspirational national leaders who has always spoken out in favour of the Gorkhali community in India, and we congratulate him and seek his continued support and guidance as in our quest for Gorkhaland statehood.
We are most thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating those individuals who are truly deserving of the August space in Rajya Sabha."
