Pradip Pradhan, 48, the owner and principal of an English medium
school in Garidhura, Kurseong, was today sentenced to life imprisonment
by a special court here for raping his student.
Pranay Rai, public prosecutor, said: "Anupam Mukherjee, the special
court judge, today sentenced Pradip Pradhan, owner and principal of the
school, to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000 for raping a Class
VIII student on September 11, 2014."
Pradhan was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been in custody since 2014.(TT)
