Siliguri: The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway will
introduce air-conditioned coaches from April 1 that will ply between New
Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling.
Sources in the Northeast Frontier Railway said the NFR has
upgraded two first-class coaches of the Toy Train into AC coaches at a
cost of Rs 43 lakh.
Recently, Ashwani Lohani, the chairman of Indian Railway Board, had visited Darjeeling and had inspected the DHR infrastructure.
"The chairman had made it clear that the railways will take
all possible steps to preserve the world heritage status of DHR. If we
receive good response from people, we have plans to develop at least
four more such coaches in the next fiscal," P.J. Sharma, the chief
public relation officer of NFR, said.
