Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh’s national meet organised in Dehradun

Guwahati: The national executive meet of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) was held alongside the party’s platinum jubilee martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Major Durga Malla at Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, on Monday.
The national executive meet was held at the historic Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha at Garhi Cannt in Dehradun while the platinum jubilee for martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Major Durga Malla was held at the ONGC Auditorium in the city.
The platinum jubilee celebration was held in association with Uttarakhand Rajyik Nepali Bhasa Samittee and Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha in which the postal department of India released a commemorative postal stamp of martyr Major Durga Malla.
On the other hand, over 100 delegates coming from different parts of the country including zonal presidents and secretaries in charge from all regions and state presidents and general secretaries of 22 state units attended the national meet held on Monday.
In the first session of the national meet, BGP’s national working president, Munish Tamang, spoke about the organisation’s work for the Gorkha community, especially in the context of National Register of Citizens in Assam, Manipur People's Bill, and Permanent Resident Certificates issue in Arunachal Pradesh.
At the end of his deliberations, Tamang expressed that the Union government must demonstrate the same political will as it did in the matter of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in addressing the long-standing, constitutional, and genuine demands of the Gorkhas in creation of a separate Gorkhaland.
“The government must act to bring about a 'permanent political solution' as it was promised during its election campaigns,” Tamang added.

Congress leader and sitting Kaliabor MP from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi, was the guest of honour in the national meet. Gogoi was felicitated by the Parisangh as "people's Parliamentarian" for his work for the Gorkha community by raising issues pertaining to the community in Parliament and at other important forums. Gogoi was thanked for being a friend of the Gorkhas and also felicitated by the states and zonal committees during the mass felicitation ceremony.
Addressing the meet, Gogoi expressed his commitment to continue working on issues related to NRC and other problems faced by the Gorkha community in Assam.
Sikkim MP Indra Hang Subba who had consented to attend the meet too was felicitated in the meet. Meanwhile, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and Tehri Garwal MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, who could not attend the session due to sudden demise of former finance minister Arun Jaitley were also felicitated in their absence and citations were handed over to their representatives.
In the second session of the meet, delegates had an intense and in-depth discussion on various issues concerning the Gorkhas in their respective states in India. The session was presided the national president of the organisation, Sukman Moktan. Convenors of youth and women’s wings, Nanda Kirati Dewan and Poonam Subba, respectively, also made their presentations. Youth state convenors were appointed for all the states across India and central committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangha (BhaGoYuP) was approved with Nanda Kirati Dewan as president and Preksha Shree Chhetri and Ramesh Bastola as secretaries. Indra Hang Subba consented to be its national patron.
A 11-member Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangha was named in the national executive meet which will be expanded to full strength of 25 office bearers and 30 central executive members at the 20th national council meet in Guwahati to be held in March 2020. The draft by laws of BCYP too was passed unanimously after proper debate and vice-president Netralal Jaisi was appointed as convenor to complete the draft approved and place it before the council.
