ITBP, SSB jawans test positive for Covid-19 in Sikkim, state tally rises to 87
Sikkim on Saturday reported two new Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 87.

In a Covid-19 health bulletin, director general (DG)-cum-secretary, health, Dr Pema T Bhutia said that one of the new cases is a 31-year-old ITBP jawan and the other is a 22-year-old SSB personnel.

Both these cases were detected in the past 24 hours, the bulletin said.

The ITBP jawan arrived at Bagdogra from Sonepat in Haryana via Delhi on June 15 and stayed at a quarantine facility in Siliguri for three days before entering Sikkim on June 18.

He was screened at the Rangpo check post and sent to Rangrang in North Sikkim, where he was placed under institutional quarantine along with 12 of his colleagues.

He later developed mild symptoms after which his swab sample along with that of five of his colleagues, was tested for COVID-19, and his test result came positive.

This is the first COVID-19 case in North Sikkim.

The people with whom he had come in contact, along with the drivers, medical and other staff of the quarantine centre, will be tested on Tuesday, Dr Bhutia said.

He stated that line listing and contact tracing of the second patient are being done and the SSB jawan has been admitted to the isolation ward of the STNM Hospital.
