More specialist docs for Darjeeling to combat Covid-19 crisis

Darjeeling: A review meeting chaired by Officer on Special Duty on Saturday decided that more specialist doctors would be deputed in the COVID-19 facilities of the Darjeeling district to combat the growing number of cases. "After reviewing the current situation, we have earmarked the plains of the Darjeeling district, Malda and North Dinajpur as the most vulnerable districts of North Bengal. On the other hand, districts such as Cooch Behar that had witnessed a spate of positive cases with the return of migrant workers, is now under control. There are hardly any positive cases in Cooch Behar at present," stated Dr. Sushanta Rai, OSD.

More doctors are being deputed at the COVID-19 hospitals in the district including Dr. Chang's, Desun and North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. "44 additional specialists will be deputed in these facilities," added the OSD. Stress will be given to physical distancing. Soon, there will be a review meeting to decide the fate of markets, including the Siliguri Regulated Market, from where there have been a number of positive cases reported. There are over 400 people infected in the civic areas of Siliguri. At least 10 marketplaces will remain completely closed for the next 10 days. Earlier during the day, state Tourism minister Goutam Deb had stated: "We have identified a total of 26 containment zones under Matigara block and four under Naxalbari area." Markets including Ektiasal, Salugara, Banglabazar, Ghoogomali, Haiderpara, Tikiapara, Siliguri Town Station market and Gurungbusty will remain closed from July 5 to July 14.
