The support the Trinamool Congress is
presently enjoying from the people of Darjeeling can vanish any moment
as the party lacks discipline, leadership and ideology, according to CPM
state secretary and Left Front chairman Biman Bose.
Bose, who was here to participate in the
party’s district zonal committee meeting at the Siliguri office, said
CPM leaders will be visiting the hills soon to improve the party’s
presence there.
When pointed out that the Left Front has
almost no support base in the hills and the same is happening in the
plains, the CPM leader said, “We have supporters in the hills and
meetings are being held regularly.”
On the recent developments in the hills
and GJM leaders going back to the GTA, Bose said, “I welcome the
decision made by the GJM leaders. I had earlier said development can
only be possible through talks, which they should have resorted to
earlier.
Bose declined replying when asked why party cadres are joining the Trinamool Congress by abandoning the Left Front’s ideologies.
Meanwhile, CPM leader and former
municipal and urban development minister Ashok Bhattacharya noted the
demand for Gorkhaland was dropped when Gorkha National Liberation Front
chief Subash Ghishing signed the 1986 agreement that states: ‘This is
the full and final settlement of the agreement’.
The Left Front is now pulling up its
socks after seeing the massive support being received by the TMC not
only in the hills, but also the plains. The party today chalked out
several programmes to strengthen and boost the morale of supporters. The
LF will organise a public convention in Siliguri on November 31.(EOIC)
