Siliguri, Mar 28 : Four Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) today filed their nominations for contesting the coming West Bengal Assembly elections across the segments - Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong - , while senior CPI(M) leader and Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya placed his candidature from Siliguri constituency.
Sources said former Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Trilok Dewan and Rohit Sharma (professor of Kurseong College) filed nominations from Darjeeling and Kurseong Assembly constituencies respectively to represent the GJM in the polls. Two GJM candidates - Harka Bahadur Chhetri (GJM press and publicty secretary) and Ram Bahadur Bhujel (Principal of Kalimpong Women's College) - filed their nominations from Kalimpong Assembly constituency, sources added.
Senior CPI(M) leader and state Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya filed his nomination from the Siliguri Assembly constituency, while another party leader K B Wattar placed his candidature for the Assembly elections from Darjeeling constituency.
In all, nine candidates are in the fray so far across Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong constituencies with three Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) candidates and another CPI(M) candidates submitting their nomination papers earlier.
CPI(M) leaders Jhorem Rai and Chhoten Kisku submitted their nomination papers for contesting the polls from Matigara-Naxalbari and Fansidewa constituencies respectively. CPIML (Liberation) candidate Kanpra Murmu filed his nomination from Fansidewa Assembly constituency.
With this, 16 candidates have filed their nominations so far to seek electoral fortune in six Assembly constituencies across Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kurseong and Kalimpong sub-divisions.
