More arrests likely this month in Tamang assassination case

Darjeeling DT,(statesman news service)3 May: More heads likely to roll in connection with the Madan Tamang assassination case as the Darjeeling district police has decided to go for more arrests.
Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation would file its report by 23 June as per the instruction from the Calcutta High Court.
According to the superintendent of the Darjeeling district police, Mr. D P Singh, they would arrest a number of persons in connection with the murder of the AIGL leader this month. “The CBI has already grilled a number of police personnel who were on security duty during the AIGL foundation day meeting where Madan Tamang was hacked to death near the Planters’ Club,” he said.
According to him, the CBI has already interrogated around forty odd police personnel.
The CBI took charge of the probe early this year following a writ petition filed by the widow of the slain leader, Mrs Bharati Tamang at the Calcutta High Court asking for transfer of the probe from the CID to the CBI. The Court asked the CBI to file the probe report within a month. The CBI asked for an extension regarding filing of the probe report at the Calcutta High court in view of the prevailing unrest in the Hills. The Court asked the premier investigating agency in the country to file the report by 23 June. Notably, the Calcutta High Court asked the CBI to take over case related to the disappearance of the prime accused in the Madan Tamang murder case, Mr. Nichole Tamang on 20 January following a petition lodged by the wife of the missing Nichole, Mrs Pema Tamang at the Court. Mr. Nichole Tamang went missing from CID custody at Pintail Village near Sukna on 22 August last year. sns
