Mirik: The
Gorkha Janamukti Yuwa Morcha organised a candle rally in town today
demanding separate statehood. The rally had been called to unite people
for the Gorkhaland demand.

Mirik Municipality to undertake development tasks
The
Mirik municipality is concerned over the various problems being faced
by wards under its jurisdiction and has reportedly taken steps to
address.
According to Mirik Municipality chairperson Mala Subba, all nine wards of the municipality area would be developed gradually. She appealed to the public to extend help while the civic body initiates such development works, adding the board has already chalked out various schemes for implementation across Mirik subdivision.
Subba added the administration plans setting up a water tank in every ward to eradicate drinking water problems. Repairs to the footpath in Mirik bazaar has already started. She said Mirik is the smallest municipality according to area in the whole of West Bengal and has been facing numerous problems since the past decade.
The chairperson also revealed the board has endorsed a proposal to construct a pay-and-use toilet at the Krishna Nagar Mirik Secondary School premises and streetlights would also be maintained properly across the town area.
Meanwhile, the Mirik Municipality Nagrik Sewa Samiti was formed today at the ex-servicemen’s office in Krishna Nagar where problems being faced by residents of the municipality area were discussed. AB Pradhan was appointed president of the committee, CM Ghising vice president, Hem Kumar Tamang its secretary, TB Giri as assistant secretary, CD Lama as treasurer, while Nimon Ghallay was nominated media secretary.
The newly formed Samiti also passed a resolution to submit a deputation to concerned authorities including the BDO, BLDO and municipality heads urging them to eradicate the existing problems.
Ghallay warned of starting an agitation if the authorities fail to take steps to eradicate problems such as that of land encroachment.(EOIC)
