"ABAVP postpones its indefinite strike"

Siliguri, Aug 10 : Akhil Bharatiya Aivashi Vikash Parishad today postponed its indefinite general strike in Terrai and Dooars following intervention of West Bengal Industry and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee.
PTWC had called the bandh yesterday demanding a hike in wages of the tea garden workers.
The union is asking for jump in wages from current Rs 67 to Rs 250.
The decision to postone the agitation came after assurance from Mr Chatterjee that the matter of increased wages would be looked into.
The ABAVP representatives had met the state commerce and minister at Kolkata yesterday to discuss the issue. The meeting would continue today to ressolve the same.
Meanwhile, Coordination Committee of Tea Transaction Workers, an combined organisation of 32-trade union, called for a two-day tea garden strike from today in support of similar demand.
However, they were demanding a hike of Rs 98 from current 67, much less than ABAVP's Rs 250.
