Sikkim/Siliguri, Sep 29 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced a central grant of Rs one thousand crore for quake-ravaged Sikkim.
''No stone will be left unturned to help Sikkim get back on its feet,'' Dr Singh told a select group of mediapersons during his brief visit to assess the damage of the September 18 temblor.
Dr Singh said he sympathized with the people and assured all possible help.
He also expressed satisfaction at the rescue and relief operations.
The prime minister was accompanied by Governor BP Singh, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, his cabinet ministers and senior government and army officials during his tour of the devastated areas of this capital.
Earlier, he landed at Bagdogra airport near Siliguri in West Bengal where a Congress delegation sought a special quake-relief package for Darjeeling.
The prime minister had made a brief stopover at Bagdogra Airport on way to the Himalayan state of Sikkim.
A five-member team, led by MLA and Darjeeling district Congress president Shankar Malakar, called on Dr Singh at the airport in the morning and submitted the memorandum seeking a special package for quake-struck Darjeeling Hills in north Bengal.
