Prime Minister to meet Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to discuss the post-quake measures

Siliguri, Sep 29: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here today on a visit to quake-affected Sikkim.

He landed at Bagdogra airport here at around 1040 hours and from there flew to Sikkim in an army helicopter to take stock of the post-quake situation in the state.

Mr Singh is expected to visit the worst-hit areas of Sikkim to and meet the quake-affected people.

The Prime Minister is slated to meet Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to discuss the post-quake measures.

However, before the high-profile visit of Mr Singh, Union finance minister P Chidambaram, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also visited the state following the devastating September 18 earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale.

The high-magnitude temblor that jolted Sikkim claimed lives of 60 people and caused damage to the tune of one lakh crore.
