Darjeeling/Siliguri, Sep 26: West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan will arrive in the quake-hit Darjeeling Hills tomorrow to assess the post-quake situation as the September 18 temblor destroyed property worth Rs 350 crore and killed some twelve people in the state.
Official sources today said the Governor would arrive here tomorrow morning and go to Kurseong sub-division to take stock of the damages caused by the quake before moving further to Darjeeling hills.
After studying the situation and meeting the local people there On Wednesday, the Governor would visit to Kalimpong hills before heading to Siliguri.
The officials assessing the estimated loss said Darjeeling alone suffered some Rs 3445 crore of property, mainly roads and bridges, networks of Darjeeling Heritage Train (DHR), also called the Toy train, and eight casualties in the evening of September 18.
No one can say when the DHR would be restored as the toy train is the main attraction for tourists visiting the hills.
Jalpaiguri Development Commissioner Amarendra Kumar Singh said altogether 12 people were killed, 60 injured admitted to hospitals, and some 52,000 people rendered homeless after their home and houses got damaged in the natural calamity.
Of the casualties, eight were reported in the hills, one at Mal Bazar in Jalpaiguri district and three in North Dinajpur.
Mr Singh, however, said that out of eight casualties in the hills, one of them collapsed due to cardiac failure.
Darjeeling District Magistrate Soumitra Mohan said roads to many villages had been damaged and connectivity between the hills and Siliguri was heavily disrupted.
