Dooars News-Police arrest criminals gang with arms including two AK rifles in the Dooars

Siliguri, Sep 30: West Bengal police today achieved a major breakthrough busting a notorious gang of criminals involved even in ''supari killing,'' with arrest of six and seizure of huge cache of arms, including two AK rifles, and ammunition from a series of raids in the Dooars area of Jalpaiguri district in North Bengal.

Inspector General of Police (North Bengal range ) Daniel Tsering Lepcha said the arrested criminals were also involved in looting a jewellry shop in Siliguri in which a private securityman was shot dead by them on September 19.

The raids also yielded two carbines, one 9 mm pistol, 24 magazines, 217 live bullets, cash worth of Rs 3.5 lakh and Bhutanese currencies, 80 gelatin sticks, 750 gram gold, 1200 gram explosives, eight mobiles and 80 sim cards.

Mr Lepcha said the raids began last night with specific inputs from different places like Kalchini, Jaigaon under Alipurduar sub-division.

Police of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri had been raiding different areas after recent series of dacoities happened in the region which created panic among common people.

Mr Lepcha said the interrogations were on to ascertain if the criminals have link with underground outfits, like KLO and ULFA.

The arrests would be produced before a court tomorrow for police remand.
