12th Siliguri International Film Festival inaugurated yesterday Under the aegis of Kolkata Film Festival
Kolkata, Nov 20 (PTI) For film buffs living in the districts who couldn't make it to the Kolkata Film Festival (KFF), selected films screened here are being shown in Burdwan and Siliguri. "We want films to travel all over the state and nobody interested should miss the opportunity of watching films. So we are taking this film carnival beyond Kolkata to the districts," KFF director Jadav Mondal told PTI here. In the 17th edition of KFF, which ended on Thursday, altogether 150 films were screened from 50 countries at 11 venues in the city within a span of eight days. Under the aegis of KFF, the 12th Siliguri International Film Festival and the 13th Burdwan International Film Festival was inaugurated yesterday. With two film shows everyday, altogether 14 films will be screened in Burdwan Sanskriti Auditorium till Friday, while Siliguri film buffs can see 16 films till Sunday. "We have selected some films screened in Kolkata and sent them to the districts so that the film lovers there can also experience the best of world cinema on the big screen," said actor Ranjit Mallick, chairman of KFF film festival committee. Notable films include 'Certified Copy' from Italy, 'Chantrapas' from Russia, 'Everlasting Moments' and 'Cant Live Without You' from Taiwan. Films from Switzerland, which was the focal country in KFF, will also be shown. Bengali film 'Icche' which has pleased both the box-office and critics, will add to local flavour among international cinema. Ritwik Ghatak's 'Komal Gandhar', which is based on the rivalry between two radical theatrical groups, will be shown in the golden jubilee celebration section. Uttam Kumar-Suchitra Sen starrer 'Saptapadi' will also be shown in the same section as both film completes 50 years of their release, KFF officials said.
