Barfee Darjeeling: German bakery to be seen in Barfee Movie

Director Anurag Basu seems to have chosen his upcoming film Barfi! as a fitting medium to pay tribute to those who lost their life in the terror attack at the German Bakery in Pune. Basu and his team have recreated the iconic bakery in a set at Film City, where they’ll shoot the second schedule of the film.
“The set reminds one of the horrific terror attacks at the bakery in Pune. It’s a sort of tribute to the victims,” says a top industry insider.
German Bakery, which was frequented by the foreigners and locals alike, was situated near the Jewish Chabad House and Osho ashram. The iconic place was bombed on February 13 last year, claiming lives of 17 people and leaving around 60 injured.
Basu has captured the feel of the city and its popular hangout spot for his film’s script.
The director has finished the first schedule of his shoot in Kolkata and Darjeeling, and is now set to complete a major section of the film here,” says the source adding, “The German Bakery set is for an important scene which involves the entire star cast of the film.”
Bringing alive the landmark eatery, before terror ripped it apart, Basu’s film will feature the bakery as part of a light-hearted sequence.

Apparently, the film’s title, which was earlier spelt Barfee, has now been changed to Barfi!

Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, the film follows the charmed life of eponymous Barfi, played by Ranbir Kapoor, as he hurdles through the roads of Kolkata and Darjeeling, chasing his love and luck. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra and south star Ileana D’Cruz.
The film is set to release by mid-next year. When contacted, Basu remained unavailable for comments regarding the developments of his film.
