Darjeeling district hospital: opened new born baby care unit by Minister Gautam Deb

Siliguri, Dec 21 : North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb today formally opened a ten-bed sick new born baby care unit in the district hospital, the first in Darjeeling district and third in North Bengal, in a bid to provide latest medical facilities to rural people of the state.

The unit, set up at a cost of Rs 63 lakh from funds of North Bengal Development Authorities, possess all latest equipment and machines, which help the medics detect causes of suffering to new born babies.

Mr Deb said the specialists will man the unit, to be extended to 26-bed very shortly. Before this unit was opened, the district hospital at Coochbehar and Malda has this facility.

He said an amount of Rs ten crore from NBDA funds had been earmarked for development of health facilities in North Bengal.

He said six more such units will be opened at various places, including Balurghat, Jalpaiguri, Jangipur, Tamluk and Arambag, within two months.

This apart, efforts were on to set computers in all district hospitals to update the data and treatment facilities.

Local MLA and physician Rudra Nath Bhattacharjee was also present during the opening of the sick new baby care unit. (UNI)
