Darjeeling News: Strike if cops fail to nab killers - Gorkha Janmukti Yuwa Morcha

Darjeeling,TT. Jan. 22: The Gorkha Janmukti Yuwa Morcha today set a 72-hour ultimatum for police to arrest the murderers of a manager and waiter of a hotel here.
The youth wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has threatened to call a strike in the Ghoom-Jorebunglow area if the police fail to meet the deadline.
The ultimatum will end on the morning of January 25 but the Yuwa Morcha has not given details of the strike — the day on which it would start or how long it would continue. A poster with the ultimatum was also found plastered at Chowk Bazaar.
The bodies of assistant manager of Hotel Meghma, Sandip Rai, and waiter Mohammed Mustafa, were found with stab injuries in a room of the hotel near the Mall yesterday.
Rai is a resident of 3rd Mile in Ghoom-Jorebunglow, 15km from here.
Chandan Yolmo, the president of the Ghoom-Jorebunglow Yuwa Morcha zonal committee, said: “We condemn the murder of Sandip Rai, who was a resident of our area. We have decided to give the administration 72 hours to catch the murderers failing which we will call a general strike in Ghoom-Jorebunglow.”
Nearly 50 residents of 3rd Mile came to the Darjeeling police station this morning to demand the immediate arrest of the assailants.
If there is a strike, those travelling through Jorebunglow-Ghoom will be inconvenienced the most.
This is because not only National Highway 55, but all detours between Darjeeling and Siliguri pass through this area.
The only route out of Darjeeling town in that case would be the circuitous Darjeeling-Jorethang-Melli-Teesta-Sevoke route. Travelling time between Darjeeling and Siliguri through this route could take more than five hours instead of the normal three hours.
Sources in the Darjeeling police said they were confident of achieving a breakthrough soon. “We have made some progress in the case, which we cannot reveal at the moment (for the sake of investigation),” said Kunal Aggarwal, additional superintendent of police, Darjeeling.
