Darjeeling, January 23:GLO leader Chattrey Subba visited Darjeeling today just for the colleagues meet tour. He met with Sikkim Darjeeling Akikaran Manch (SDAM) leader Shankar Hang Subba. Later he also went to the Darjeeling District Jail to meet his friends.In conversation to Sikkim Mail over phone Subba said that his visit was to meet up his old friends in the town. When asked on the Gorkhaland issue, Subba said that he will perceptibly start agitation for Gorkhaland sooner. “I went jail for the demand of Gorkhaland and I have love and affection for it” said Subba. The demand of Gorkhaland is the desire of every Gorkhas; it is the constitutional right so no one can prevent us from getting it he added.Similarly SDAM leader Shankar Hang Subba said that the meeting with Subba was just a formal meeting which lasted for twenty minutes. The talks were basically of protecting Darjeeling from the trap of Bengal and of the current political situation in the hills said SH Subba. “Our main aim is to protect Darjeeling from the trap of Bengal” said SH Subba. He further said that SDAM is not a party, but just a Manch where ordinary people can keep their view. The Manch is appreciated by Chattrey Subba too he added. On 22 August 1988 there was a tripartite meeting held between government and GNLF where GNLF leader Subash Ghising undersigned the formation of DGHC dissolving the demand of Gorkhaland forever. It was this time GLO leader Chattrey Subba protested against the GNLF and started agitation for Gorkhaland. On Feb 2000 GNLF leader Subash Ghising on the way to Kurseong was attacked where Subba was arrested. After spending11 years behind the bars, and the change in the government in the state culminated the release of Subba.
