Corrospondent The state government's initiative to make Sikkim connected to the nation through a railway gets a big blow today when the public amassed unitedly at Mazitar,Rangpo protesting against the monopoly of authority. Astonishing thing which levelled today was that the public comprising of land owners of Mazitar and Khani Khola didn't even had any idea about Railway's intention to blanket their infrastructure at Mazitar as well as Khani Khola belt. The situation brimmed more suspicious when the Railway authority provoked that the State Govt pressed us to take a survey since they assured that public have nodded for the developmental activity. When this correspondent asked one of the land owner he said anguished, 'I really don't understand how these survey and measurement are going on, neither myself being a head of family was notified by the panchayat or by notices, these survey people from where ever they have come from have already marked their pillers in several places around the village take a hue chance when no one at house were present in day week before'.Over the matter this correspondent tried contacting the panchayat over the mobile but he refused to come to the spot where people have gathered rejecting that he's attending a marriage in Namchi.
Being aggresive in his tone he was totally baffled with the whole things being carried out at the spot today. Interesting thing to be noted here is that the survey was carried out without prior information in black & white given to the private land owners. It was shocking for the authority that huge land owners and people all of sudden gathered at their survey place where they were carrying their tasks at Khani Khola. From the state government side VLO was present along with the other officials and the Railway officials with the map devised for marking their prominent locations to setup Railway infrastructure.
Meanwhile all the villagers have stood unitedly to avoid this survey, the surveyor also halted not to penetrate through the private holdings for surveying. The land owner’s voice is clear & audibly that 'Not an inch of land will be given to the Railway, no matter even if they bulldoze through our body'. According to them they are not at all in mood to give a land for any hefty amount whomsoever pays, since they have to conserve it for the future no matter what situation children's face tomorrow,at least they can earn something in this well located place where there are ample of opportuities for livelihood.In picture, there is also a marking which was done by the state and railway authority previously without the presence of land owners and people, which reflects the monopoly of concerned dept.
